The fact that we can be overcome with joy and so much happiness at any given moment (if we allow ourselves) was so perfectly illustrated by Jack. This is not his first time at this beach, nor his last, but wouldn't it have to be one of those options for us to be quite this excited -- or we might be excited, but would we so freely express it from the tip of our nose to the tips of our toes. I think about the joy that comes from that kind of expression.

Before we headed for the beach, Jack and I were standing in his front yard where they have a little fountain. Jack told me he was making a wish and threw a rock into the fountain. I asked him what he had wished for. He said "to be a grown-up, like you". And I thought, I sometimes wish I could be a kid, like you. And then we went to the beach and I thought, yes, definitely a kid like you. :)

I love these pictures! They make me want to book the next flight to a beach somewhere. My favorite is the last one, where he s running toward the water. Awesome!

I was in Chicago last week for a photography workshop. But to call it a "photography" workshop does not even come close to capturing all of its amazingness (yes, I just made that word up). The workshop wrapped up Thursday evening, and Friday morning before my flight home, I had a session with Jack. It was perfect that I could sneak in a session while in Chicago. And Jack was the perfect little guy to be around after the workshop - he embodied so much of what we had talked about. To remember what it's like to be a kid. To be so free. So imaginative. So ok with who you are. So silly. And to experience the pure joy that can accompany silly.

These images were shot in a row, as you see them. Jack would make a silly face, I would snap the shot, he thought it was hilarious that I took the shot, laugh the most purest of laughs, and go immediately into his next silly face.

When was the last time you were silly? Free of self-consciousness. Free of worry of judgment. Just free. Of the three lessons Jack reminded me of that morning, this is probably the most difficult one for me. But thanks to Jack, I have these images to remind me what I'm missing. :)

I last saw Ella and Ana in April of last year. What a treat to be invited back to their home this summer! Highlights of the session: their mom is awesome and gets so excited for their photo sessions, we managed to get a few shots with the girls together - not an easy feat when you're around the age of two, the fun tree in their backyard, Ana's little curls - I totally love curly hair(!) and Ella's gentle, sweet presence. I had trouble not sharing the entire session...

Again you have captured the personalities of both girls, which makes the pictures even more amazing! This year you have managed to tug on a few heart strings as well I've been told from family members who have viewed the shots, GREAT WORK!!!

I'm excited to announce two dates for this year's summer mini sessions: July 31 and August 8

The summer mini sessions are for 1-3 children and last about 20 minutes. Each session will include an online gallery with approximately 10 images and one 8x10 print. All studio items will be available for purchase a la carte inclucing prints, canvases, collages and note cards.

Saturday, July 31 | Silverwood Park (directions)
I love this park! For some of you it may feel a bit out of the way, but I think it's worth it. It has great trees, large rocks, a lake, a wooden bridge, etc.

Sunday, August 8 | Minneapolis Riverfront - near the Guthrie Theater
I keep returning to this area because it's so awesome! I guess if something is so good that it keeps you coming back that's not a bad thing.

Session times are early to beat the heat, minimize crowds, and maximize the best light. Sessions are scheduled on the hour and half-hour from 8:00a - 11:00a. Cost is $100 (+tax).

Sessions will be scheduled on a first come, first serve basis so if you're interested please email soon with your preferred choices for date and time. Hope to see you this summer!
