Here are some family images that I don't think I've shared yet for various reasons (some I held onto so holiday cards remained a surprise). As I look through this collection of family images it makes my heart smile. It's the connection. I recently stumbled upon a show talking about happiness and what makes us happy. I guess it shouldn't have been a surprise that it's the connections we have with others. Being a photographer not only allows me to be witness to such moments of happiness and love, but I get to freeze those moments and give them back to hopefully be treasured for a really long time. Pretty awesome. When I find myself frustrated and doubting myself, it's the feeling I get when I see images like these that pulls me back.

Another new family that I feel so fortunate to have met this year. We met up on a chilly October day. Not too chilly to be outside, but chilly enough that we pretty much had the park to ourselves. And I fell in love with this park. It was a perfect location suggested by this family. These are some of my favorite black & white images this year. I've been typing and erasing and typing and erasing for thirty minutes now trying to find the words to describe what it is about these images that I appreciate so much. But actually, I'd rather have the images speak for themselves and you can decide. I'll just say what a true pleasure it was to spend the afternoon with this family.

First, I can't believe that the next time I see Katelyn she will be one! Seems like I was just meeting her as a newborn. Doesn't she have the prettiest eyelashes. Ok, I'm quite tired out from this morning's (fun!) mini sessions so I'm going to cut the writing short and get to sharing some of sweet Katelyn's images...

This is one of my new families this fall. They are awesome and I feel fortunate they chose me to photograph their family. This first image was taken within less than a minute of meeting Benjamin. He was sitting with me while his parents were gathering things from the car. I usually wait a little bit for kids to warm up before I pull out the camera. But it was clear that Benjamin needed no warming up period. This was a great start to a great morning. There are so many of this beautiful family that I want to share. And we got some great ones of them all together, but I think I'll save my full family shots from my sessions until after the holidays - just to keep them a surprise for any potential holiday cards they may want to send out. :)

The weather has definitely not cooperated this year. Those beautiful fall days I look forward to were hard to find this year. So I'm thankful to my families who were flexible with their schedules and willing to brave the chilly weather. This was one of those chilly days, but I think we made the very best of it. And if cool weather is an excuse to bring out fun hats I'm all for it! :) This little guy is super cute. I'm kind of in love with his eyes (check out those eyebrows!).
