I was so excited to see Zoe again. She's so pretty. And such a pleasure to photograph. She was pretty much up for anything. I learned that Zoe is not a fan of bugs when I asked her if she would sit in a tree. She just kind of looked at me. But then went for it and totally committed to the shots! Oh, and it was amazingly humid (!) the morning we met up for our session. Thankfully nobody melted. Seriously.
I thought it was awesome they brought along her guitar (and hat!) -- I think it made for some fun images -- and definitely some of my favorites of the session. At the end of the session, as we were walking back to the cars, Zoe said to me "I actually had fun having my picture taken." Pretty much top of the list of my favorite things to hear from my little clients. :)

Last month I got to attend and photograph my first bar mitzvah. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but any expectations were definitely exceeded. I think most of that credit goes to the bar mitzvah boy himself - Noah was brave, articulate, kind, intelligent and seemed to handle it all with such grace. And the ceremony was full of so much love, kindness, respect and joy. While photography wasn't permitted on the main floor, I was allowed to photograph from the balcony - which combined with the awesome light, worked out perfectly. I feel honored to have been a part of such a special day in this family's life. Here are a few of my favorites from the ceremony...

Here are some family images that I don't think I've shared yet for various reasons (some I held onto so holiday cards remained a surprise). As I look through this collection of family images it makes my heart smile. It's the connection. I recently stumbled upon a show talking about happiness and what makes us happy. I guess it shouldn't have been a surprise that it's the connections we have with others. Being a photographer not only allows me to be witness to such moments of happiness and love, but I get to freeze those moments and give them back to hopefully be treasured for a really long time. Pretty awesome. When I find myself frustrated and doubting myself, it's the feeling I get when I see images like these that pulls me back.

Another new family that I feel so fortunate to have met this year. We met up on a chilly October day. Not too chilly to be outside, but chilly enough that we pretty much had the park to ourselves. And I fell in love with this park. It was a perfect location suggested by this family. These are some of my favorite black & white images this year. I've been typing and erasing and typing and erasing for thirty minutes now trying to find the words to describe what it is about these images that I appreciate so much. But actually, I'd rather have the images speak for themselves and you can decide. I'll just say what a true pleasure it was to spend the afternoon with this family.

First, I can't believe that the next time I see Katelyn she will be one! Seems like I was just meeting her as a newborn. Doesn't she have the prettiest eyelashes. Ok, I'm quite tired out from this morning's (fun!) mini sessions so I'm going to cut the writing short and get to sharing some of sweet Katelyn's images...
