This lovely family was my first session of 2010 and my last session of the year. Perfect bookends to a wonderful year.
Yes this is a business, and I understand there are lots of factors in deciding to return each year for a session (or two or three :)), but on a purely personal level I truly get excited and happy when clients return because I enjoy seeing them. As individuals. As families. As friends. And I miss them when, for whatever reason, I don't get to see them again. So I'm thankful for the time I do get to spend with each family. Thank you cute Vincent, Nicholas and your awesome parents. And thank you to all my 2010 and past families! Happy New Year! :)

We met on a weekend a little bit like the one we're having now. But thankfully not quite as snowy. Or as blowy. Which meant we were able to actually have this session! Ok, enough about the weather. Why talk about the weather when I can talk about Lila and her parents. Again, I'm so grateful for families like this that invite me into their home (often every room of their home!) and allow me to experience their life for an hour or so. And then to have them be fun and kind and open... it's a joy and a gift. A few favorites from our time together...

Love the photos! So much nicer when they are candid like these. Miss Lila is getting big and it looks like her personality is shining through!
Thank you for sharing your gift of photography and the spirit of this beautiful child!

Joy. It's one of my favorite words to describe something that is well... joyful. Happy. Full. All that is good. A favorite feeling. Joy is what I feel when I look at these images. It's what I feel when I think about how lucky I am to meet families like this. I don't think you can fake joy. It comes from inside and bubbles out. And it is my privilege to witness it and photograph it. Thank you Nora and Libby (and your parents!) for giving me that opportunity. So to those of you reading this, I encourage you to go out and find or create or appreciate some joy today. :)

This was a fantastic day. I remember driving out of the Afton Apple Orchard parking lot thinking "this was a really good day". I had two super fun sessions that day (the other, with two adorable girls, I'll post later this week). I got to spend the afternoon with an amazing mom and her amazing son. It was mid-October and the weather was beautiful. And I had an apple doughnut for the morning! So many I could share from this session. I'm so lucky to be their photographer... and friend. :)

This was such a fun session. Plus, when it's your sister you can say things like "we need to wait like another 10 minutes for the sun to be just right" or "just move that way a little, no that way, no back that way, and wait again for the sun". And they would wait. And they would move. And move again. And I didn't have to feel bad. And we got the shot. :)
