She's such a sweet little girl and I've thoroughly enjoyed seeing her every few months over the past year. The weather never quite cooperated for us to pop outside for any of our sessions, so I've joked with her parents that when she grows up she'll think she spent her first year in the kitchen. ;) Thankfully, their home has awesome light. But, Katelyn, maybe we can have a play date outside this summer! :)

canvas1_blog.jpgcanvas2_blog.jpg ]]> http://www.krystenhalek.com/2010/01/art-canvas-prints.html http://www.krystenhalek.com/2010/01/art-canvas-prints.html news Sun, 31 Jan 2010 11:03:55 -0600 families | minneapolis family photographer Here are some family images that I don't think I've shared yet for various reasons (some I held onto so holiday cards remained a surprise).  As I look through this collection of family images it makes my heart smile.  It's the connection.  I recently stumbled upon a show talking about happiness and what makes us happy.  I guess it shouldn't have been a surprise that it's the connections we have with others.  Being a photographer not only allows me to be witness to such moments of happiness and love, but I get to freeze those moments and give them back to hopefully be treasured for a really long time.  Pretty awesome.  When I find myself frustrated and doubting myself, it's the feeling I get when I see images like these that pulls me back.

]]> http://www.krystenhalek.com/2010/01/families-minneapolis-family-photographer.html http://www.krystenhalek.com/2010/01/families-minneapolis-family-photographer.html families Sun, 24 Jan 2010 21:42:29 -0600 a great start to 2010 | minneapolis children's photographer My first session of the year with some of my favorite clients.  It had been about a year since I had last photographed Vincent and now he has a new baby brother.  Nicholas was nearly a month old and was perfect.  Really perfect.  I couldn't believe how well he slept (I'm usually not so lucky).  And when he was awake he pretty much would just hang out.  There was very little crying and only one feeding.  Plus, when either of those things were happening, I had Vincent to entertain me. :)  Vincent is such a happy little guy.  I look forward to seeing these brothers grow!

How could I resist all the things I love... Jocelin, planning a surprise, choosing bedding, picking out art for the walls, perfecting all the little details, and just overall creating a space for a kid that feels comfortable and cute. I told my sister I wanted to help and asked her if I could re-do Jocelin's room. She said sure, and that was all I needed to hear to start (somewhat obsessively) planning and shopping. I had so much fun and was so excited knowing this would be a complete surprise. Then last weekend, with the help of an awesome friend, the makeover took place. So while Jocelin was away we cleaned and assembled furniture and decorated the walls and... 6 hours later, exhausted, the room was complete. I wasn't there for the "big reveal", but I got a phone call from one very excited, surprised, 9-year old girl when she got home. She said she felt like a princess. Yay! She should feel like a princess. :)

I spent hours and hours and hours on etsy.com (I'm officially addicted) looking for art. It really is an awesome place to find such cute, unique, affordable, fun art. I'm excited to share some of the fun things I found. I'll do another etsy-specific post soon with more of my "favorite sellers", but I'll start here with a couple artists I used for Jocelin's room...

Falldowntree - if I had baby's room (or younger kid's room) to decorate I would definitely be doing more shopping here!  Check out the "Bird Band" print.  Could it be any cuter!?  Seriously. I love his stuff! I'm keeping his prints in mind for future kid/baby gifts.

falldowntree.jpgFlapperdoodle - another fun find on etsy.  I actually originally ordered the cats print and the polaroid camera print for myself, but then decided to use them for Jocelin's room (and ordered a third print).  With so much other color in that area of the room, I thought it might work well to have some black and white drawings.
